Carina Contemporary Home Renovation

Brick home renovation design

Carina Contemporary Home Renovation

This Carina contemporary home renovation project below is an example of a renovation design created by dion seminara architecture rejuvenating an older style brick home in Carina.

The concept revolved around a desire to capture the views and ensure spaces are as open as possible, without limiting the practicality of each space. There was also desire to link the internal areas to the external poolside and new deck area at the front of the home. This home renovation included contemporary additions to a brick home, including new entry, deck & entertaining areas.

Given the contemporary style of the client’s house, we created a sleek steel framed addition for the entry roof and deck and deck roof structure to the front of the home as well as the proposed high-level roof to the side of the client’s house. In this way, we ensured the simple well-refined additions complimented the heavier design of the existing house.

Client brief

Project details

Add a roofed deck and carport to the front of the house, maximising the outlook wherever possible to ensure all planning provides open spaces. Relocate the entry and allow for undercover parking for three vehicles. Relocate the kitchen and open it out to the front of the house, with lots of storage and drawers. Improve the connection to the pool area from the main living area. Remove all ample mesh screens and replacing with Crimsafe type screens. Modify the outdoor roof structure to limit heat entry but not limit light entry into the house.

Suburb history

Carina Architecture

Today Carina Architecture varies from Queenslanders on large blocks to workers cottages and luxury new townhouses. Land in Carina was first purchased back in 1863. Carina at this time was used for mostly timber and sugar cane farming. Most of the residential development in the Carina area occurred post World War II. At this stage, there were many housing commission and war service homes built in the area. Carina is now undergoing rejuvenation and is a popular suburb for families, being relatively close the Brisbane City and more affordable than most of the neighbouring suburbs to the west.
