This Camp Hill home renovation was intended to blend with the existing home and increase the overall liveability for the family. The client brief was the creation of an all-weather usable space and functional outdoor room consisting of a deck area and terrace area for both outdoor lounging and dining. The family was also looking for an outdoor kitchen zone with the dining area suitable for entertaining up to 24 people. The lifestyle design of this home has improved the streetscape and met the needs of the family.
The new extension comprises an outdoor terrace connecting to an enclosed sunroom through bi-fold doors. A classic outdoor entertaining area with kitchenette caters to entertaining family and friends, with a separate outdoor lounge positioned as a private sanctuary. The interconnecting indoor sunroom and outdoor dining space are very functional and versatile, with the family being able to enjoy this area year round.

This project won the 2017 residential ArCHdes (Design Excellence Selection) award.
This home, located within a traditional building character area, required approvals for the extension works and relaxations for the street frontage setback and outdoor room.
The challenge of a sloping block resulted in retaining walls being used to level the block. These have created depth, definition and a feeling of spaciousness while providing the practicality of additional seating within the exterior living spaces.
The area behind the small retaining wall in the outdoor dining area was planted out to provide a green aesthetic to the zone and to link with the gardens. The landscaping was established to screen out the neighbours, and the block was levelled to ensure it remained functional for the family. The remaining back yard now feels larger and is a more useful space.
The addition of a gatehouse accentuated the newly created entrance which was positioned to welcome people into the home’s extension and main living areas.
The extension and renovation also included a new laundry and guest bathroom. The smart design allows for the new laundry to be located near the exterior of the home and yet be removed from sight when not in use and when guests visit.
The chosen face brickwork has provided texture and interest when combined with the modern, well-proportioned windows, and complements the rendered finish of the existing home. Matching the terracotta roof tiles of the current home ensured a seamless extension.
