Auchenflower Renovation & Addition
Streetscape enhancements to the front of this home have indeed rectified the issues our clients had with their ageing Queenslander. A sloping block created opportunities for the Auchenflower renovation design to provide for a dual living environment. From the front of the home, the street appeal has been greatly enhanced. Relocating the double carport to the other side of the house facilitated the creation of a new front entry.
Entrance stairs with a landing porch and skillion roof created the look and feel our clients were after. The old double carport area was designed to be a grassy play area with a terrace for the family to enjoy the sunny aspect from the front of the home.
The first floor saw the entry porch open up into the living space. A new internal staircase opens out from the kitchen and living space with louvres to let in breezes. The new kitchen and dining area open onto the deck through large bifold doors to create an indoor/outdoor space and flow from the kitchen and dining out onto the deck. New joist, decking and balustrades were proposed, and the deck will have a new low skillion roof with an outdoor lounge in the south-eastern corner. Optional aluminium shutters could be included to control the south-easterly winds. A new staircase leading to the backyard on the south-western side with a lower skillion roof provides shading to protect it from the elements.
The ground floor extension required a retaining wall due to the nature of the sloping block. An open-planned living, dining and kitchen will open up onto the deck making the area feel much larger. Due to space limitations, the kitchen incorporated the laundry to the side of the room.
Auchenflower is 2.5 km west of Brisbane city and right on the Brisbane river. It is a great place to live if you love Queenslanders. Many old Queenslanders still line the streets of Auchenflower giving you opportunities for an eco-friendly renovation.
