An outdoor living area is a real luxury in summer. Whether that space is a pool pavilion, covered terrace or your outdoor deck – add to your enjoyment during the sizzling summer months and right through the festive season’s celebrations by making your outdoor space the best it can be.
Being able to enjoy your home’s external environment is important throughout all seasons, but particularly during the warmer months. Depending on the unique opportunities your home provides, and your lifestyle, there may be many possibilities for you to enhance your external spaces.
We have been fortunate enough to share the joys of renovating indoor and outdoor zones in preparation for summer for many homeowners. With the holiday period quickly approaching, now may be the best time for you to investigate how changes could make your home more enjoyable and therefore more suited to your lifestyle.
I thought I would share with you some of these renovations which we designed to enhance the liveability of our client’s homes.
For our Mango Hill clients, whose renovation is about to commence following our tender process, we created a covered outdoor extension with wide overhanging eaves to provide sun protection and capture the breeze due to the home’s orientation. Bi-fold doors will allow that breeze to enter the living zones, providing comfort during the summer months.
Resort style ambience provides our North Lakes clients with a more contemporary covered outdoor lounge and dining experience to share with family and friends year-round. Seamlessly integrated into the existing home, this tiled outdoor patio shields from the heat and draws the breeze into the house. Their sensational pool zone provides enjoyment for children and adults alike.
Designs to maximise lifestyle
Our outdoor terrace design for this Cashmere home provides the perfect outdoor entertainment area for those hot summer days. Convenient entertaining of family and friends supplies food and beverages through a servery window connecting to the kitchen. A few steps away, a pool pavilion offers the perfect escape and further opportunities for entertaining and family enjoyment.
Extending the home for Summer entertaining
Welcoming guests has never been so easy for our Camp Hill family. This all-weather outdoor dining space provides ample room for up to 24 people – making it perfect for Christmas lunch.
This renovated Clayfield home’s rear deck provides a comfortable and tranquil lounge room extension from the living area – offering a cool space to entertain in the hot summer months.
This Indooroopilly indoor/outdoor room provides all the benefits of three rooms in one. This space, complete with built-in barbeque, can be used as an outdoor deck by opening the sliding doors; it can be a protected zone when the insect screens are in use, or it can become an internal room – all depending on the weather. Creative design can achieve multiple benefits within the one space to provide year-round comfort and functionality.
It is not just your external living environment that will impact your lifestyle in summer – think about your bedrooms, living zones and kitchen. How do these areas stack up in the summer months?
With the warmer weather approaching, consider how your home’s internal zones respond to both the heat and summer storms.
October has provided above average night-time temperatures for the south-east, and this is likely to continue throughout the summer months. To ensure a cooler summer, a few simple air-flow changes could make all the difference to the temperature inside your home, not to mention your electricity bills.
For your homes’ internal zones, harnessing the cooling effects of cross-flow breezes is essential. If renovating a bedroom area or building new, orienting rooms to capture the prevailing summer breezes is vital. Also, consider incorporating appropriate windows that catch the breeze and ensure there is through flow.
